01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Selecting a tabletop toaster from the dining room shelf and browning each slice right at the table is the centerpiece of the Centre The Bakery experience. The classic Jam & Butter Set lets guests compare different styles of shokupan (Japanese milk bread). The domestic-wheat square loaf is renowned for its fine-crumbed, tender softness eaten untoothed and fresh. Toasted options include the pullman loaf with its aromatic crunch and the domed British-style loaf that develops a brisk, light crispness, paired with Échiré butter, Biei dairy butter from Hokkaido, and an assortment of jams.

Melty French Toast and Warm Cheese

Beyond plain slices, the kitchen prepares a varied selection of hot dishes. Thick-cut bread covered generously with warm Raclette de Biei makes for cheese toast that pairs rich crumb with mellow, savory melted cheese. The signature French toast is thoroughly soaked in custard batter, yielding a creamy, pudding-like center served like a dessert alongside ice cream or fresh whipped cream.

From Breakfast to Takeout

Breakfast begins when the doors open at 9:00, featuring English breakfasts and convenient half-portion French toast served with coffee. A wide selection of generous sandwiches—including egg salad, seasonal fruit, and katsu—caters to cafe visitors, while freshly baked loaves of square bread are available for takeout to enjoy at home.
